Flexibility is the key word for the construction partners.
Wilco is one of the Netherlands’ largest book and magazine printers. Part of the activities is concentrated in a new building of over 13,500 m2 in Amersfoort. Sustainability is an important consideration for Wilco, flexibility the key word for construction partners. “They are challenged on their expertise,” says Paul Caspers, involved in the new construction as an advisor for Wilco.
“The selection of construction partners was preceded by an intensive process. Given the complexity and desired flexibility, the requirements were high. The choice fell on Groothuis Bouwgroep, Warmtebouw for the W installation and Van den Pol for all E-Facilities.”
One year from order to delivery, that is a short construction time.
“That only works if everyone understands each other’s roles and interests. A project like this really comes together. Parties help each other where possible and that is why the construction pace is high.”
Lighting is crucial to properly assess the colors of printed matter. It may seem like a minor detail, but details are essential in this new construction project. The quality of the LED lighting was a key factor in awarding the contract to Van den Pol. Electrically, the heavy-duty power supplies for the printing presses are also noteworthy. Furthermore, Van den Pol is responsible for the installation of access control, CCTV, security, and fire alarm systems. A great deal of time is spent connecting all the heating and cooling elements. The integration of the controls contributes to the complexity of this project.
By using energy rails, a flexible arrangement of the presses is possible in the future. In addition to facilitating flexibility, the ability to think along is an important characteristic for the construction partners. “They are not checking off a checklist in this project, but are being challenged on their expertise,” Caspers emphasizes. “You notice that they are happy to take on such a role.”
