City Hotel
Gouda
City Hotel welcomes guests with a completely new look and feel. The building has been renovated from top to bottom, with a lot of attention to sustainability and atmosphere. Lighting plays a key role, and we have the right people to make that happen.
City Hotel Gouda focuses on business and private guests. “Both target groups are equally important,” says general manager Hubert-Jan van Catz. “Zakelijk wordt zowel individueel als in groepsverband geboekt, vaak in samenhang met onze vergaderfaciliteiten.”
Welcome renovation
The past period has been all about renewal. “About two years ago, we were taken over by European Hotel Capital (EUHC). The new owner opted for a complete renovation. Not necessarily necessary, but very welcome. In line with this, the name was changed to City Hotel Gouda, with a higher quality level and plenty of room for our own character.”
Smart adjustments
The renovation involved all 101 rooms and the meeting rooms. “They were upgraded and expanded with an exclusive boardroom. The restaurant, bar and offices also underwent a makeover.” For the renovation of the electrical installations, the Gouda hotel called on Van den Pol Elektrotechniek. “They were also involved in the new construction in 2012 and know our installations in detail. As expected, that turned out to be a major advantage during the renovation. They also thought along a lot about smart adjustments. That definitely benefited the end result.”
Nearly 300 panels
Van den Pol Elektrotechniek renewed the installations for electricity, data, lighting, camera and sound. The PV system was also expanded. “Sustainability is an important spearhead for owner EUHC. There are now almost 300 panels on the roof. With that, we can generate 30 to 35% of the energy requirement ourselves.”
Visible stamp
The renovation started in early August 2024, and the entire ground floor was finished by mid-October. “That’s very fast for a hotel renovation. Especially when you consider that we weren’t closed for a single day. The flexibility of the construction partners kept inconvenience to guests to a minimum.” Van Catz is pleased with the end result. “It has become incredibly cool, a real metamorphosis when it comes to atmosphere, look and feel. The new lighting is essential in this. It is controlled by an easy-to-use DALI system with which we can create the desired look and feel at any location. In this way, Van den Pol Elektrotechniek has left a clearly visible mark on our renovated hotel.”
