Fire alarm facilities in monumental buildings are often complex
The Dubbelde Palmboom is an asset of Stadsherstel Historical Rotterdam. This former grain warehouse and distillery has a striking tenant: the Dutch Pinball Museum. “After years of vacancy, the building is in poor condition,” says Menno Spoormaker, Architectural Manager at Stadsherstel. “Brickwork and wood rot have been repaired, the roof has been insulated. Later modifications and additions to the interior have been removed.
Van den Pol has brought the electricity up to date again. The fire alarm system has also been replaced and expanded.” Realization of fire alarm facilities in monumental buildings is often complex and in this case the challenge lay in the very limited pipe installation and the structure of the building. . “Van den Pol has a lot of specialist knowledge. In addition to the construction, they also take on the management.”
The Dutch Pinball Museum is located on the ground floor and first floor. Owner Gerard van de Sanden has been collecting pinball machines since he was fourteen. This led to a unique collection of about 150 cabinets. “The wishes of the museum were taken into account where possible during the renovation,” says Spoormaker. “However, their stay in the building is temporary. That is why the facilities are flexible with a view to the future.”
