Enschede
First location outside US
Beyond Meat is leading the way in plant-based meat. Products are designed with the same texture and texture as animal meat in mind, while plant-based meat is better for the environment. Products are designed with the same texture and texture as animal meat in mind, while plant-based meat is better for the environment. “The Enschede location is the first outside of Missouri (US) to feature our unique method for texturizing plant proteins, the first step in the process,” said Tom Brucciani, Vice President of Operations in Europe. “A location in Europe brings production closer to the consumer. It allows us to use local supply chains. Ultimately, that will improve the cost structure and sustainability of our operations.”
Crucial role
Van den Pol played a crucial role at the Enschede production location. “They were introduced in the early stages of the project by our engineering partners Amstelius. Their track record with major food producers was important. Their experience with design and installations that meet the requirements of world-leading companies was also essential. This knowledge enabled us to optimize the installation design. We were also able to benefit from Van den Pol’s supplier network.”
As project manager, Van den Pol was ultimately responsible for all installations. “They also supplied the electrical facilities, industrial automation, some of the process equipment and internal transport. Beyond Meat had only limited specifications for the installation. “Van den Pol’s expertise was essential in the design and implementation of the final layout of the the production lines and system integration. Their past experiences and current best practices proved to be very valuable. It sped up much of the design and installation process.
Meeting quality standards
Beyond Meat is doing everything it can to ensure that the Enschede location also meets the quality standards for sustainability. “There is an action plan to gradually improve environmental performance, working towards a BREEAM Very Good score.
Brucciani has come to know Van den Pol as an excellent partner. “They handled the changing demands of the project well. Furthermore, Van den Pol continued to support the installations for months after the initially agreed-upon deadline. Their services and installations were delivered within budget and to a high standard.” Will the collaboration between Beyond Meat and Van den Pol continue with other projects in the future? “I hope so!”
