Eye-catchers in Nieuwegein
In the western part of Nieuwegein’s city centre, offices are making way for homes. The first complex of this large-scale metamorphosis is City West, a project by Aalberts Bouw with a visual and functional eye-catcher.
City West has 99 apartments plus a number of commercial spaces. “The building consists of two residential towers and is located right next to the tram line. This presents an additional challenge, both logistically and in terms of safety,” says Antoon Versteeg, project manager on behalf of Aalberts Bouw.
Roof garden and retention system
City West has a luxurious appearance and a high level of sustainability. This is evident, among other things, from the roof garden with a great deal of attention to biodiversity. “A retention system collects excess rainwater as a buffer for warm periods. The PV installation also contributes to the sustainable character of the residential complex.”
Van den Pol Electrical Engineering was responsible for this. We also took care of the complete electrical installation, video intercom system and smart LED lighting in common areas.
“With this lighting, the shiny golden spheres in the entrance are a real eye-catcher.” In functional terms, the same applies to the parking lifts in the underlying garage. “To make optimal use of the space there, twelve elevators have been installed, each with two shared cars.” We have also installed the associated charging facilities for this.
Always a solution
Van den Pol was given the opportunity to make his mark on the project through engineering, says Versteeg. “Het is een bekende partij vanuit eerder gezamenlijke projecten zoals Dukatenburg, twee torens met 67 huur appartementen, ook in het centrum van Nieuwegein. Once again they prove to be a solid, reliable specialist. We know what we have in each other. And if something doesn’t go as expected, there is always a solution.”
