Brouwerij ‘t IJ has begun the complete renovation of its current brewery, taking the next step in sustainability. The new brewery in Amsterdam-Oost will be fully operational in less than a year. The decision to continue brewing at the same location was a conscious one: ‘t IJ is part of Amsterdam-Oost, and vice versa.
Sustainable brewing For Brouwerij ‘t IJ it was obvious to put sustainability at the heart of the plans.
This means going beyond simply constructing a sustainable building. “We believe it’s our responsibility as a brewery to invest in a sustainable future, and we’ve therefore chosen to make the necessary adjustments to reduce our CO2 emissions by up to 50% initially, including the use of an e-boiler,” says Robin Arts, production manager at Brouwerij ‘t IJ. He also indicates that the long-term goal is a 100% carbon-neutral brewing process. Van den Pol Elektrotechniek is responsible for the complete fire alarm and electrical installation, burglary and data. We also installed a charging station and PV panels that provide +/- 110 kWp
The new brewery uses the latest equipment and technology to guarantee the quality of IJ beers, but also to develop new beer varieties and respond to consumer needs. A great project for our Retail business unit to start working on from January 1, 2026.
