Proud of the past, ready for the future
90 years of progress in electrical engineering

In a profession full of challenges, Van den Pol continues to prove himself. With an eye for relevant innovation, plenty of room for young talent and an increasing social impact. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary, Wim van den Pol looks back and forward to a future full of energy.
In nine decades there were numerous economic crises and the Netherlands experienced a war. “This company has proven that it can deal with change and setbacks,” says director Wim van den Pol. “We can be proud of that. This characteristic also gives us every confidence for the future.”
Going for it
The same applies to the continuous drive to improve. “Don’t rush to chase trends, but first investigate what an innovation really delivers; for the customer and for us. If we’re convinced of the benefits, we’ll go for it. ” Like wireless switching, which eliminates the need for drilling and milling. “Construction goes faster, we can manage with fewer people and their work becomes more pleasant.”
Young at Heart
With 250 employees, Van den Pol’s company has an ideal size. “Large enough to be among the best professionally, small enough for a human touch. Colleagues feel at home here. No fewer than two-thirds of our employees have been with us for 12.5 years or more. We’ll soon be celebrating our 50th anniversary for the fourth time.” All this experience is continually supplemented with talent from the Van den Pol Academy. “Our in-house company school has ensured that this company remains young for 19 years, with a low average age and a fresh perspective. It’s great to see young talents making rapid progress. They are given all the space to do so.
(IN)visible impact
The Club of 250 works on complex projects. “They inspire our people and make them proud of their work. These often involve prominent buildings. Take a landmark like Booking.com, which at the time was the largest new office building in Europe. Or De Hallen Amsterdam, a cultural center in a restored tram depot. Or De Kroon in The Hague, a 40-story residential tower built on a postage stamp.”
While these projects are visible to everyone, often only customers notice Van den Pol’s efforts. “Through more efficient installations, energy-efficient buildings, and higher productivity. Or because they can continue to grow despite grid congestion with smart energy management.”
Radiant
By making an impact for customers, Van den Pol also advances society. A monumental undertaking like the energy transition is impossible without electrical engineering. We’re often in the lead on projects, and that makes our profession increasingly challenging. With 90 years of history as a rock-solid foundation, I foresee a bright future—for the company and for our people.
