Plus Ultra III Wageningen

We were previously involved in the Curie Laboratory Building (formerly Grizzly) at Pivot Park in Oss, also a project by architect Proof of the sum. “This complex has many similarities with Plus Ultra III,” says project leader Roelf. That is why the architectural firm recommended us here

Van den Pol previously worked on a Kadans project: the shell new build for biotech company Genmab in Utrecht. And the WUR campus is also familiar territory. We recently upgraded the fire alarm system in two atriums with a striking solution: climbers suspended from ropes, attaching sensors at great heights.

Large Grid Connection

Unlike many other new construction projects, Plus Ultra III features a substantial grid connection. The building consists of four sections. Each of these has a shaft with a 600-amp busbar. On each floor, this branches off to the tenants’ distribution panel. Van den Pol is responsible for the complete electrical installation. From the transformer to the last socket, and including lighting, fire alarm system, and PV installation. Furthermore, for the tenants who are already known, we are installing additional facilities.

Timber construction firsts

Timber construction is an important feature of Plus Ultra III. We are carrying out such projects increasingly often. Think of the new wooden buildings at Redwell and Parel in de Polder for construction company De Vries en Verburg. SAWA is certainly also remarkable, the first wooden residential complex over 50 meters high. a first, just like Plus Ultra III, which is the first laboratory in wood.

Faster, cleaner, quieter

What impact does timber construction have on us as electrical specialists? “The preliminary phase takes a bit more time,” says Roelf. For example, determining the locations for openings requires precision. There are certainly advantages to the implementation. Drilling or milling is not necessary, so there is no dust or noise. Working with wood is faster, cleaner, and quieter. Our installers are happy about that: timber construction contributes to our job satisfaction.
