Van den Pol Electrical Engineering has been involved with Utrecht Central Plaza since 2022.
“We were selected at the time by the former owner of the complex,” says business unit leader Kees. “Then we started working on the installations.” After selling the building, the new owners Ten Brinke and RED Company brought Van den Pol back on board. “Our first design forms the basis for the current layout.
Logistic puzzle
“One of the challenges in this project is the integration of the area to be redeveloped with the new construction,” says Roelf ,project leader of Van den Pol. Existing routes and main ducts will be maintained as much as possible. Space above the ceilings and in the underground parking garage is limited. Careful coordination with W-Partner Klimaatservice is required to accommodate all pipes and installations.

Van den Pol Elektrotechniek is increasingly being called upon to find a solution for grid congestion. That’s the new reality, including for this project. Because the complex wasn’t fully operational prior to the redevelopment, grid operator Stedin reduced the contracted capacity to 450 kWh. However, in the new situation, double that amount is needed, and even more at peak times.
